John Berg is the co-CEO and president of Swirl, where he leads the agency with co-CEO and chief creative officer Tom Sebastian. John came to Swirl in 2011 to be a partner in a privately held agency to give greater priority to clients and employees. John is the identifier of Swirl's core philosophy: actions speak louder than words–a philosophy directly tied to the agency's approach to brand building: brands need to do first, then say.

John believes that an agency can, and should, comprise people who are both extremely talented and genuinely nice. During John's time with Swirl, the agency has gone through a period of explosive growth and prosperity. In 2014, Swirl was named one of the "100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in the Bay Area" by the San Francisco Business Times. Swirl was also ranked in "The 2014 Inc. 5000: The Fastest-Growing Private U.S. Companies."

Prior to joining Swirl, John was CEO/president of leading agencies including DDB NY, EURO RSCG (Havas Worldwide) New York, TAXI New York and, most recently, Y&R California. Helping clients achieve business goals, expansion of agency capabilities, financial growth and high levels of employee satisfaction characterize his time leading those agencies.

John began his career in the DDB New York account management-training program. As Omnicom was being formed, he saw an opportunity to move to sister agency BBDO, where he stayed for 12 years. He ultimately became an executive vice president and, at his board inception, became the youngest director in the company's 100-year history. John has deep experience in the packaged goods, retail, fast food, automotive, beverage and corporate image categories. He has also led several large global accounts, filling his frequent-flier account while learning various cultural nuances. Through John's career journey, he has come to believe deeply in the potential of a breakthrough insight and in the business-changing impact of a great creative idea. Outside of work, John is the chairman of the board of the San Francisco Bay Area Association YMCA and was a trustee of Northfield Mount Hermon School. John and his wife Carol, avid cyclists and skiiers, live in Tiburon and enjoy watching the races of their daughter Annika, an accomplished alpine ski racer.
