Tour de Best Buddies
1 Agency, 3,456 Miles, Over $75,000 Raised, and 44 Pairs of Sore, But Accomplished Legs

We had an unforgettable weekend along the coast, as 44 Team Swirl riders and runners participated in the Hearst Castle Best Buddies Challenge—a fundraiser benefitting Best Buddies International. This breathtaking ride took us along the majestic Pacific Coast Highway, from Carmel to the finish line at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. Not only were we ecstatic to participate in this wonderful event for the fourth consecutive year, but our motivated Swirlies also collectively raised over $75,000!

Best Buddies International is a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This organization is a valued partner of Swirl—two years ago we welcomed our very own buddy, Eddie Allen, as our office coordinator. From him keeping us all in check, to his infectious smile, we're so thankful Eddie has become an integral member of our Swirl family. He was also a huge support as a Best Buddies Challenge volunteer this year. As the Swirl team crossed the finish line, Eddie was there distributing medals and congratulating riders. After riding 100 miles, seeing his smiling face was almost as good as receiving the medal and definitely a highlight of the weekend.

“My favorite part about volunteering at the Best Buddies Challenge was getting to see all of the cooperation and teamwork,” says Eddie, “And in Best Buddies, everyone’s a winner”.

To us, the Best Buddies Challenge isn’t just a race — it’s an honor. It allows us to support Eddie and give back to an inspiring organization. The sore legs were definitely worth it, we’re already looking forward to riding again next year!
